Number 7: Open Air Fish Market: Wish we could use a more appealing name for this one! But number 7 on our list is not to be missed, this is a great place for Turkish hospitality, cuisine and great atmosphere which will draw you back again. Choose your fish from the central area in the market, then pick one of the many restaurants (this will not be a problem as the restaurant staff will be vying for your attention) if your not a fish lover not a problem there are lots of dishes to choose from. Your fish is cooked and brought to your table with your dishes picked from the menu. This is very much a local place where Turkish frequent in groups and a great place for people watching and of course the live Turkish music at your table!

Fish Market

Number 8:  Fethiye Market:  More commonly known as ‘Tuesday market’ in Fethiye this is a very famous and popular destination amongst tourists and locals alike. Bustling and busy this large market sells many kinds of goods. There are also many small inexpensive make shift restaurants, selling Turkish pancakes alongside a stream that cools the surrounding air. The market is shaded as most of it is covered with large canvas awnings, where the market traders can be heard shouting to get your attention. What to buy when you are there? Well its your choice from fresh fruit and vegetables great if your self catering! Spices, honey, clothing, textiles, jewellery, shoes, household goods, bags, leather goods a lots more are there to tempt you.

Fethiye Market

Number 9: Oludeniz &  Blue Lagoon: Famed for its breathtaking beauty, Oludeniz has become one of Turkey’s most acclaimed resorts in the Fethiye area. It is a hugely popular anchorage for daily Boat trips around the surrounding islands and in summer the sky above the lagoon is filled with paragliders soaring off the nearby mountain. The resort itself sits behind a vast crescent of sand and pebble beach, on the fringes of a much larger sheltered turquoise blue lagoon, with magnificent pine-clad hills as a backdrop. No wonder it’s been declared a conservation area of natural beauty. You will find a good selection of cafes, bars and shops along the waterfront and in the narrow streets that run back from the beach. Dine in 5 star hotel international cuisine restaurants or relax, soak up the sea views in the cafe eateries, chill on beanbags located on the beach and gaze at the evening stars whilst being served chilled drinks.

Oludeniz

Number 10: (Ghost Village) Kayaköy (Levissi Karmylassos) is a village 8 km south of Fethiye where Greek speaking Christians lived until approximately 1923. The ghost village where you can wander around the now preserved museum village, consists of hundreds of rundown but still mostly intact Greek-style houses and churches which cover a small mountainside and serve as a stopping place for tourists visiting Fethiye and nearby Oludeniz. There are very good restaurants in the area most popular being the cook it yourself bar b ques under the shade of the trees and famed lamb known as Lamb Tander cooked in underground ovens.

    • Hi Karen, You can get the bus to Fethiye and then on to Calis or from Fethiye you can get a water taxi (lovely way to travel over) located on the harbour in central Fethiye. The journey from Ovacik to Calis would probably take an hour depending on bus schedule. Lovely sunsets in Calis! If you need more info just let me know 🙂
